Laurel — Best Of contests for local publishers

Draft — not yet reviewed by counsel

This page exists so the structure is decided and the site is not asking for an email address with nothing to link to. The wording below is a skeleton with the facts we can already state accurately; everything marked [FOR COUNSEL] is a slot, not a statement. Nothing here is a binding representation, and it should not be relied on until this banner is gone.

The publisher agreement is a different document. It is versioned, it is signed during onboarding, and it is not this.

Terms

Terms for using this website

Last substantive change: 22 August 2026. Version: draft.

What these terms cover — and what they do not

These terms cover laurelvoting.com: reading it, using the demo ballots, and sending us an enquiry.

They are not the agreement a publisher signs to run a contest on Laurel. That is a separate, versioned document presented during onboarding and accepted explicitly, with a record of which version was accepted and when. Where the two say different things about a paying customer's relationship with us, the signed agreement governs and this page does not.

They are also not the terms of any individual contest. A Best Of contest belongs to the publisher running it — their rules, their eligibility, their decision on results.

The demo ballots

The demo contests linked from this site exist to be tried. They award nothing, the businesses in them are sample data, and the results are meaningless by design. We may reset or remove them at any time. Please do not use them to nominate a real business you would not want appearing in a demo. [FOR COUNSEL] — whether anything more is needed here.

Accuracy of what is on this site

Laurel is under active development and some of what is described here is described as planned rather than finished — where that is true, the page says so. Prices shown are current list prices for the tiers that have one and are not an offer; what you would actually pay is set out in the agreement you sign. [FOR COUNSEL] — the standard no-warranty, no-reliance and limitation wording, and how it interacts with the signed agreement.

Intellectual property

[FOR COUNSEL] — ownership of the site, the Laurel name and the laurel mark; what a publisher or a winning business may do with badge artwork; permitted use of screenshots by press. Note for whoever drafts this: the two typefaces this site uses are licensed under the SIL Open Font License and their licence texts ship alongside them in public/fonts/.

Acceptable use

[FOR COUNSEL] — scraping, automated submission to the demo ballots and the enquiry form, and security testing.

Governing law

[FOR COUNSEL] — jurisdiction and venue, and whether they should match the publisher agreement or differ from it deliberately.
